Site audit for energy efficiency and cogeneration replacement feasibility with solar PV and heat pump
In 2021, CSEES was appointed by a Council in Sydney to conduct an energy audit on the their Aquatic and Leisure Centre to replace the existing 350 kWe cogeneration plant with a solar PV plant and heat pumps for pool and space heating. The study included data analysis and thermal modelling of the plant and validation with Schneider energy and water data to identify the losses in the system. The roof of indoor pool was detailed analysed to explore 300-400 kWe solar PV installation. The whole thermal plant including gas boilers and heat pumps were analysed in terms of temperatures and flow rates (energy in and outs) to explore the utilization factor for each device and redesign the thermal plant by decommissioning of the cogeneration plant. The alternative smaller cogeneration plants to meet the afternoon peak demand was also studied.
